Travolte da un insolito destino

L’indice sulla qualità della vita emesso annualmente dal Sole 24 Ore retrocede la città di Potenza al 79° posto. A poche incollature più avanti, Matera, della quale forse sarebbe stato lecito attendersi qualche posizione più generosa. Ma anche uno stupido capirebbe che dopo tutto il rumore di questi ultimi mesi attorno alla candidatura per “Capitale Europea della Cultura 2019” le posizioni della cugina materana sono destinate ad aumentare vorticosamente con le classifiche degli anni a venire.
E intanto cosa succede a Potenza? Arretra in quasi tutte le statistiche. Però la città ha, opportunamente, deciso di appoggiare questa candidatura. Aveva scelta? Ovvero, sarebbe stato, ragionevolmente possibile decidere di non appoggiare la candidatura di Matera? Dal 79 posto sarebbe scesa immediatamente al 200mo, ma non per qualità di vita, per stupidità. E almeno questa se l’è risparmiata. E poi la cosa, obiettivamente, ha anche i suoi vantaggi.
Io, ad esempio, non sono tra coloro che pensano che se a Matera arrivano un milione di turisti all’anno, poi una piccola parte di questi (non si capisce bene perchè) possono capitare nel capoluogo.
Penso, invece che i due capoluoghi sono in condizioni di offrire al visitatore un’immagine diversificata di qualità. Una regione con le sue due perle che sappiano rispondere, ciascuna a modo proprio, alle differenti esigenze delle loro comunità e dei loro visitatori.
Matera ha conquistato sul campo la leadership della cultura, del turismo, dell’ospitalità.
Potenza, che è sempre stata la città capoluogo, ha invece accentrato su di sè i servizi, le amministrazioni, il centro direzionale politico.
Quando penso a queste due città rivedo la locandina del film della Wertmuller: “Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare di agosto”.
Dove c’è lei, la Melato, bella, di elevato rango sociale, sprezzante e altezzosa, che rappresenta la parte esteriormente “bella e impossibile” della nostra regione, cioè la città dei Sassi.
E poi c’è la parte un pò meno bella, rappresentata da Giancarlo Giannini nella parte di un marinaio, rude e un pò cialtrone, animato continuamente da una insopprimibile desiderio di rivalsa nei confronti della aristocratica contessa, che – per quanto riguarda la parte meramente rappresentativa – simboleggia Potenza.
Nel film succede che, a causa di un naufragio i due poi si trovano – loro malgrado – su un’isola deserta (metaforicamente paragonabile alla nostra regione), e lì sono praticamente costretti ad interagire sotto una nuova guisa. Si annullano i conflitti di classe. L’aristocratica, svincolata dalla sua funzione ufficiale, non può più esercitare la propria odiosa autorità. E il marinaio, rovesciando il suo succube destino di servo, si vendica di tutte le angherie subite a bordo, costringendo la Melato ad abbandonare la sua aria da contessa snob e a sottostare al suo nuovo ed autoritario ruolo.
Ma poi succede quello che non ti aspetti. I due protagonisti, resi complici da una grottesca situazione, diventano amanti, ma mai potendo rinnegare la loro diversità, le loro origini, profondamente divergenti, che costituiscono il valore aggiunto dell’intera, geniale pellicola.
L’una bionda, eterea, bella e impossibile, l’altro nero, bruttino, rozzo eppure con la sua parte nascosta di fascino. La diversità come vero fattore di successo.
Il finale magari ve lo ricordate, ma non è importante.
La spiegazione della metafora è, per l’appunto, quella di vedere le due città finalmente scoprire, riconoscere e in ultimo riuscire ad apprezzare reciprocamente le loro intrinseche differenze.
Essere diversi è un grande valore aggiunto per la regione.
Ve lo immaginate se Potenza fosse stata, ad esempio, una piccola città d’arte? O se ci fosse stato un rione antico con delle abitazioni scavate nella roccia?
Sarebbe stata stritolata immediatamente dalla “concorrenza”. E invece, per fortuna, è “altro”.
Avere un proprio stile, un marchio di fabbrica, un proprio fascino ed esclusività, è di per sè una qualità enorme, che spesso offusca il dato esteriore della “bellezza”.
È ovviamente un invito, un suggerimento, un monito che mi permetto di fare alla “mia” Potenza. Delle due cugine, certamente la meno bella, ma anche quella che deve puntare sulla propria reale quintessenza per valorizzare se stessa. E se la propria quintessenza non è la bellezza, allora cosa può caratterizzare il capoluogo affinchè possa togliersi i panni scomodi del brutto anatroccolo e indossare quelli, più dignitosi, di una città con un preciso carattere, una sua peculiarità?
Ovvio: l’organizzazione dei servizi che è in grado di offrire.
Una città per essere organizzata deve innanzitutto sapere di poter offrire una certa qualità di servizi.
Innanzitutto il capoluogo ha una serie francamente impressionante di infrastrutturazioni. Sfruttate male, comunicate peggio, fruite quasi per nulla, ma ce l’ha.
Bisogna solo che se ne capaciti, e ovviamente bisogna che metta in campo azioni che siano indirizzate esattamente a quello scopo lì.
Ovvero allo scopo di farla passare da città della confusione a città dell’organizzazione.
A Potenza si calcola che entrano quotidianamente circa 25 mila presenze quotidiane nei giorni feriali. Il che significa che questa mole di persone va assistita a puntino, organizzata millimetricamente, gestita opportunamente.
Bisogna che la città, specie durante le ore mattutine, non sia più attraversata da una fila interminabile di pullman extraurbani (circa 200 ogni giorno) che imperversano in lungo e in largo per la città – specie nelle rush hours -, e che ne congestionano le strade come il colesterolo nelle vene, aumentando a dismisura la pressione e causando continui micro-infarti nel traffico.
Bisogna poi che le numerosissime auto private che arrivano a Potenza da ogni parte della regione, siano incentivate a non invadere la città intasando i parcheggi dei pubblici uffici, ma che siano date loro alternative possibili, da parte del sistema del pubblico trasporto.
La parola chiave è: connettere. Connettere i pullman cittadini con le scale mobili, conettere i pullman extraurbani con le navette che devono effettuare continuamente piccole corse per trasportare i flussi verso i punti di raccordo. Connettere i parcheggi con le stesse navette ed alimentare di conseguenza un movimento talmente organizzato da somigliare ad un balletto del Bolshoi.
A Matera si deve andare per rimanere ogni volta senza fiato, per i paesaggi che sa offrire, per l’architettura che sprigionano le sue volte di tufo, è una città che ti accoglie come un’amante che non nega il proprio corpo meraviglioso per una nuova, emozionante visita.
A Potenza, invece, ogni volta che ci vieni, lo devi fare sapendo che la città è in grado di dirti: “stai tranquillo, adesso ti porto io dove devi andare”. Senza disagio. E ti accompagna mettendoti una mano sulla testa,come farebbe una mamma premurosa e attenta, mentre ti dice: “io sono qui che ti aspetto, quando hai finito ti riporto a casa, ok?”.
Una seducente amante la prima, una madre benevola la seconda.
La Melato e Giannini, Coppi e Bartali, Potenza e Matera.
